Visibility in AI search
Couples are now asking ChatGPT who to hire.
A growing share of hiring research starts in an AI assistant or an AI Overview rather than a list of blue links. Being the source those systems quote is a different job from ranking first, and it is winnable now while most of your market ignores it.
What changed
The answer arrives before the click does.
When someone asks an assistant to recommend a wedding photographer in their city, they get a short answer naming a few names. Most people never scroll past it. If you are not one of the names, the search is effectively over before your website was ever a possibility.
This is not a replacement for traditional SEO and anyone telling you it is has something to sell. AI systems build answers largely from sources they already trust, which in practice means sites that rank well, carry clear structure and are corroborated elsewhere on the web. Good SEO is the foundation. This is the layer on top.
What actually gets you cited
- Direct answers to real questions, stated plainly near the top of a page rather than buried under three paragraphs of scene setting
- Clean structured data: LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage and Article schema, so the machine does not have to infer what you are and where you work
- Consistent entity signals: the same business name, service area and description everywhere you appear, so systems can confidently connect the references
- Third party corroboration: venue supplier lists, directories, features and genuine mentions, because a claim only on your own site is weak evidence
- Specific, verifiable detail: concrete facts about venues, timings and prices outperform adjectives, which is exactly what makes content quotable
- Clear headings and short answerable sections, which is the same structure that wins featured snippets and has done for years
How we measure it
Traditional rank tracking does not capture this, so we sample directly. We run the questions your clients would realistically ask across the major assistants on a schedule, record whether you appear, who appears instead and which sources are being cited. That gives a baseline and a trend rather than a guess.
The honest position
This field is young and the mechanics shift. Anyone promising guaranteed placement in an AI answer is making it up. What we can say with confidence is that the underlying work, structure, schema, corroboration and genuinely useful specifics, is the same work that has always made sites rank. It is durable regardless of which way the technology moves next.
Optimising for AI search is mostly just doing the fundamentals properly, earlier than your competitors.
Questions
Questions photographers ask us.
Is this worth paying for yet?
As a standalone service, for most photographers, not yet. As a layer inside a proper SEO engagement, absolutely, because the work overlaps almost completely with what already helps you rank. We include it rather than charging separately for it.
Can you guarantee I will appear in ChatGPT answers?
No, and nobody can. These systems are non deterministic and the same question can return different names on different days. What we can do is make you the most citable option in your market and track whether it is working.
Does blocking AI crawlers protect my images?
It also removes you from consideration in AI answers entirely. For most photographers that trade is a bad one right now. It is a real decision with reasonable arguments on both sides and we will talk it through rather than deciding for you.
How is this different from normal SEO?
Roughly eighty percent is the same work. The difference is emphasis: more structured data, more attention to consistent business information across the web, more direct answering, and measurement by sampling assistants rather than only tracking positions.
