Local SEO

Own the city you actually shoot in.

Nearly every photography booking starts as a local search. If you are not in the top handful of results for your city, your suburbs and the venues nearby, you are invisible at exactly the moment someone decided to hire.

Why it matters most

The search that books work is almost always local.

A couple planning a wedding does not search “photographer”. They search a city, a region, a venue name or a style plus a place. A parent booking newborn photos searches their suburb. A business booking headshots searches their district. Intent and geography arrive together.

That is good news, because local search is winnable in a way that national search often is not. You are not competing with every photographer in the country. You are competing with the studios within driving distance, and most of them have never done this work properly.

There are two surfaces to win, and they behave differently. The map pack is the block of three business listings with a map. Organic results sit below it. They are ranked by overlapping but distinct signals, and a serious local programme works on both at once.

What we build

  • City and suburb pages that are genuinely different from each other, with local venues, real galleries shot there and specifics only someone who works in that area would know
  • Map pack optimisation covering categories, service areas, attributes, photo cadence and the review signals that most influence local ranking
  • Local citations and consistency so your name, address and phone number match everywhere they appear, because contradictions actively suppress local rankings
  • LocalBusiness schema describing your service area, pricing band and services in a form search engines and AI assistants can parse without guessing
  • Internal linking that passes authority from your strongest pages into the location pages that need it

The mistake almost everyone makes

Spinning fifty near identical location pages by swapping the city name. It worked in 2015. Today it reliably produces a set of thin pages that Google either ignores or treats as a quality problem across the whole domain.

We would rather build eight location pages that genuinely deserve to rank than fifty that drag the site down. If you only realistically travel to four places, you get four pages, and they will outperform the fifty.

The photographer who wins the city is rarely the best photographer in the city.

In practice

What good local work looks like.

Service area, honestly drawn

We map where you will genuinely travel and price accordingly. Claiming a fifty mile radius you have never worked in produces pages that never rank and enquiries you do not want.

Venues as local anchors

Venue names are local search terms with almost no competition. They are the fastest route into a new area, because the venue does half the ranking work for you.

Reviews as a ranking signal

Steady review velocity on the right profile moves local rankings measurably. We set up the process so asking becomes automatic rather than awkward.

Questions

Questions photographers ask us.

How many cities can I realistically rank in?

As many as you can write genuinely distinct, useful pages for, which for most solo photographers is between three and eight. The limit is not technical, it is whether you have real work, real venues and real local knowledge to put on the page.

I work from home and do not want my address public. Can I still do local SEO?

Yes. Google supports service area businesses that hide their street address while still appearing in local results for the areas they serve. It is a standard configuration and we set it up properly, which matters because doing it wrong can suspend a listing.

How long does local SEO take to work?

The map pack often moves faster than organic, sometimes within six to ten weeks, because profile and review signals update quickly. Competitive city terms in organic results usually take four to nine months depending on the city and your existing authority.

Do I need a separate page for every suburb?

Only where the suburb has genuine search demand and you have real work to show from it. Otherwise you are better served by one strong city page. We check the actual search volume before we build anything, rather than assuming.
